Magalang

Brief History:

A prosperous agricultural town, Magalang is the site of the Pampanga Agricultural College, a school specializing in agricultural courses including husbandry and poultry raising. Spanish Augustinian missionaries established the town during the term of Spanish Governor Pedro Bravo de Acuna., located at the western side of Mount Arayat, in 1605. After the pinatubo eruption in 1991, most big time poultry raisers from Minalin town transferred operations to this area, which also teem with piggeries and inland fishponds.

Fishpond owners in Pampanga source their fingerlings (tilapia) from producers in this town, it's well-known for its confectionaries (sweets) particularly the incomparable pastilla de leche, a popular item for gift-giving and a table dessert on fiestas and social gatherings.

The Magalang sweets are distinct in their unique taste because of the quality of the milk from water buffalo (carabao) that feed on green grass growing on the fresh well-irrigated pastureland of the agricultural section of the town.

The Regional Drug Rehabilitation Center is also located in this town and started operation early 2000.

San Pedro de Magalang is situated in the northeastern part of Pampanga. It prides itself of having one of the oldest agricultural school, a
weather observatory and research station etablished by the Spaniards in the late nineteenth century. Like its neighboring towns of Mabalacat and Arayat, its land is well-suited to agriculture particularly for sugar cane and rice farming.
