San Simon

Brief History:

San Simon was founded on 1770. Its former name was Del Pilar taken from that of Mariano Del Pilar delos Reyes, the founder. Del Pilar, the town was changed to San Simon in honor of Don Simon de Anda y Salazar, one time Governor-General during the Spanish regime.

Presently San Simon has 14 barangays. Its chief industries are farming and fishing as in most Pampanga towns which principal livelihood is predominantly agricultural.

San Simon is now the site of several plant and factories. Being the town nearest Manila, after Apalit, Metro Manila industries find the place an alternative location for their new plants or for the expansion of existing ones.

The MacArthur highway dissecting the town is one of the lowest points in South Pampanga as it gets inundated first and the last to dry up after a heavy and lengthy rain.

Metal industries and refilling centers comprise a major part in the town's enterprises.
